The following overview presents some of the most impressive trekking options around Sorata and invites you to explore the unique landscape, culture, and tranquility of this remarkable Andean valley.

Laguna Chillata (1 – 2 days)

An ideal short and acclimatization tour. Quiet Andean landscapes, an easy hike, and impressive views of the Cordillera Real – perfect for a first impression of Sorata and its surroundings.

Laguna Glaciar (3 days)

One of the most popular treks from Sorata. The route leads over Laguna Chillata up to Laguna Glaciar at over 5,000 m. An intense high-mountain experience without technical climbing – ideal for well-acclimatized trekkers.

Circuitus Illampu (7 days)

A wonderful circuit around the Illampu massif. Turquoise lakes, remote valleys, and wild high-mountain passes make this trek a demanding adventure for experienced hikers.

Trans-Cordillera Trek – Sorata to Condoriri with Ascent of Pequeño Alpamayo (approx. 12 days)

A grand traverse of the Cordillera Real. From Sorata across lonely mountain passes to the Condoriri massif, where the ascent of Pequeño Alpamayo – one of Bolivia’s most beautiful summit objectives – forms the perfect finale.

Trans-Andean Trek – from Sorata into the Amazon (15 days)

A unique journey crossing the Andes down into the jungle.

Starting in Sorata, with visits to the ruins of Iskanwaja and Mama Koullo, followed by a descent through cloud forest and deep valleys.

Upon reaching the lowlands, the route continues by boat from Guanay to Rurrenabaque, before the tour ends in Madidi National Park – in the heart of the tropical Amazon rainforest.
